Dear yanyan, Yoli and Kenza,
Yes, it's truely amazing that we are right in the middle of it.
I could never visualize this till i first read this :)
It's such a useful graphic which helps us and our children to relate and visualize these facts in a fun way.
Iza LOVES this.
I wish your children would enjoy this too :)

Can Iza read a lot English now? Will show Anja and Anette this and explain it to her in Norwegian:)

Dear Fei An,

"Can Iza read a lot English now?" ...

The definition of "a lot" or "a little" differs from person to person. It's very close to the case whether you feel "enough or not" ... just very subjective. One may feel satisfying even he/she only gets "so little" ...

When i came across the issue of iza's homework (for almost one and a half year), i didn't realize we parents have such a hugh difference in interpreting " a lot" or NOT ... it all depends on the expectation of the parents ...

Somehow, the same applies to the justification of a child's ability. It seems there's an objective systematic scale measuring a child's English ( not Chinese ) reading ability around the world. Not only there are different scales, and the standards may differ from cities to cities, schools to schools, parents to parents ... even when a child has achieved a standard set for their ages ... parents might look for higher achievements and advancement ...

I never count the amount of words iza knows and the no. of books she reads (since her early age) as many of HK moms do ... i still remembered iza could not name a-z in their sequential order before kindergarten ( we didn't think there's a need to teach her these ) ... not to say recognizing the alphabets ... i am confident that she would definitely know a-z when she graduates from UNIVERSITY :) There are so many years for her to learn ... therefore no worry and no hurry ...

Quantifying knowledge is no fun ... rather, we enjoy the most precious time when a child's imagination is not yet polluted, her curiosity is not yet strangled, her acute senses are not yet paralysed ...

But i know some parents think if their child still does not know a-z and count from 1-100 before 3.5Y, the child learns too slow. According to their assumption, iza should be classified as "slow learner".

Iza is now a keen inquirer and avid reader. We are so happy with her :) No matter how much she knows now, there is still "A LOT" to learn.
